We just came back from our honeymoon in kauai. We found IZ there and we are both so greatful for the beauty of the island and of the most amazing man IZ. I bought a Cd and play it often and I cry with sadness for the loss and also for the beauty of his message and voice. I feel so much when I hear him. Thank you IZ for all that you were and all that you have given to me and the world. I wish that I could have met you but at least I have your memory and your music. You are what makes Hawaii and the true people there so important, just like my native american ancestors... love is pouring from my heart to you and your family. I had not heard of IZ until recently this year when I heard his version of "Over The Rainbow" and was mesmerized by his voice. His voice was truly soulful and lyrical and honest. I am so sorry that the world did not get to knoIZ as an entertainer. The world has missed a precious gift that was IZ. He was an individual pure talent that only comes along once in someones life. I am glad to have gotten to hear his voice, but fear future generations will miss out on this gift. Rest well IZ, you will be missed not only for your talent but your purity of heart and soul that you put into your music.

Brudda IZ. I fell in love with your music quite some time ago. Somewhere over the Rainbow medley holds a special place though. I have seen a lot in my life. I was on the first civilian plane after hurricane Katrina and helped for a week. I went to Haiti after the earthquake and my job at home is in the Emergency room. I see a lot of tragedy and when it gets to me I put that song on (my mp3 player) cry through it and then I see everything different and go back to the work I love. I just visited O'ahu, I can now understand his passion to speak to people through song. I bought a CD while in Hawaii & was surprised that "Country Roads" was on the CD! I grew up with that song as my Father played country music. My children, ages: 5,6 &7 beg me to play IZ in the car! The favorite is Country Roads". I am a 70 year old widowed man living here in Northern California. I found Israel's music maybe 10 years ago while visiting Maui. I go at least twice every year and I am never without his beautiful music and play it the whole time I am over there. He brings the joy of life and the magic of the islands into my heart. I read alot here at home and I always have his misic playing in the background. I would have given anything to have met him just once. You can feel his loving heart in his songs. Over the rainbow leaves me with a lump in my throat, fantastic singer, wonderful voice, shame it ended. Other songs are just as wonderful. Iz's voice, whilst watching a film, (50 first dates) has followed me ever since. Beautiful, God has taken a true voice of an angel. x

I had never heard of IZ until a few years ago Jason Castro on American Idol did IZ's version of somewhere over the rainbow and I thought wow what a great version of this song. Then I checked out IZ and I am in love with this man's music. He was truly a gifted. If any man had a voice that was angelic this man did . I really do believed that IZ was annointed by GOD with a gift of song. Even though his songs may not seem like a ministry, to so many they are just that. IZ's spirit will live on through his music. Whenever I hear him sing on the radio or CD I can not help but to feel GOD all around me. IZ's voice automatically lifts my spirits when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel sometimes. I too am a singer, and if I ever sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", I sing it because of IZ. He is and will always be a great inspiration to us all.

One of my brothers recently sent me the cd Facing Future. After getting some info about Israel on the internet I found out he was one of the Makaha Sons of Niihau. I lived on Oahu in 1979 and heard them in concert while I was there. I bought their album and Israel signed the back of it. I didn't know that he had passed away in 1997. Looking at the picture of him on the album when he must have been about 20 years old, brought back wonderful memories of my time there. I couldn't listen to the cd for awhile as I believe I was grieving for him. I am now enjoying it again. What a wonderful talent, but gone too soon. Aloha, Rosalie Verga

I spent 4 great years at MCAS Kanehoe Bay, HI and I loved every day I was there. I recently discovered your music by chance on NatGeo watching a program about the islands. Your music has once again struck a chord in my heart and soul... I always loved the islands and try to keep the island spirit in my heart and daily life here in Los Angeles. I lived on the north shore of Ohau from 1971 to 1978 with out hearing of his music, or him,sorry to say. I now wish That I stayed to maybe meet him and maybe hear him sing. I watch him on youtube every night, I did not know it was possible to miss someone you never knew, but I do.

IZ rest in peace, i had only found his music after his death, such a wonderful musician. When i was pregnant with my son last year, i had played somewhere over the rainbow and it had calmed my baby, now my son is 18 months old i still play it to him and he falls asleep to it. Your music has really touched my life, and your music wil continue to grow and never die.

I heard 'Someehere over the Rainbow': on a TV advert and I have been searching for it ever since. Now reading the story of Isaac only makes the song more mystical and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Amazing singer, amazing story, amazing song.

'Rainbow' was the theme music for the BBC series South Pacific which introduced me to Iz's music at a time when my wife and I were looking for a first dance tune at our wedding. When I litened to the full version online and found it flowed into 'Wonderful World' that was it. People have talked about the peace it has givn them at difficult times but it summed up all the joy of stepping out into married life together. I may have a British head but my heart is definitely 'Nesian.

This year I was able to take my family on our first tropical vacation.Hawaii was the selected destination,as this is where my wife of 19 yrs has always wanted to go. The vacation was full of tours, site seeing snorkling ect. As my wife, two boys and I took taxis, buses and walking on the tours we ran across a local man buy the name of John. He turned out to be our go to guy for rides around Hawaii. John was a guy who was easy to get along with aswell as loved his music. As he played his 70s 80s 90s selections through his ipod we played a little trivia on who the artists were ect. As John played his music he commented he likes to do this so when we hear these songs again we might think of our holiday in Hawaii. As he was doing this he put a song on and asked if I new this song. It was over the rainbow by IZ as he talked of IZ we really got the whole feeling of just how proud Hawaiians are of there islands and there culture. now every time i here this song our whole holiday comes back to me,for this John and the late IZ I thank you !!!

A friend gave me IZ's musice just last week and I have to say the message he puts out to the world is the best I have ever heard. Just came back from 2 weeks in Kauai, bought my 1st IZ CD and since then, have played Iz' music on my way to work, on my way home and any chance in between. He had a great soul and passion for his people and music like no other. He left us much too soon. I am sorry to admit that, before now, I did not know of him. I am glad to admit that I do now know of him. I discovered him while watching a film. I was struck to tears by his "Over the Rainbow" in that film. I told my wife through watery eyes that I had to find out who this person was singing the song. Whenever I see a video of him singing this song and when, for that matter, I simply hear the song, he brings me to tears (the kind derived from "sweetness") -- every time. A man like this one..., well, I know he is somewhere still...over every rainbow.

I found 'Iz' recently when looking for 'Somewhere over the rainbow' I had heard his version of it once and jsut wanted to hear more, I was saddened to hear that he had died so young, he had a beautiful voice, great loss but his music lives on.

He has a beautiful voice. I just heard about him this year and I love his music. May he RIP. We will meet one day.

I first heard IZ's music about 1995, and couldn't believe I never heard of this fantastic singer before. His beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes. I sure was sad to hear of his death, but he's singing in heaven now. I just heard Iz's music on a movie soundtrack last night ("Fred Claus") and I began searching for the origins of the great voice and music. I was very sad to find that Iz has already passed on. What a great sound from what appears to have been a great man. I hope that his family is doing well. As one of his newest fans, I am very impressed with his work and I look forward to purchasing some of his music to share with my own family.

I recently became a patron of XM radio, and driving to work one day began listening to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'...could not believe the beauty that I was hearing and had to know who the artist was immediately. I added his name to my cell, and everytime I hear it his voice touches another part of my soul...you are truly Beautiful IZ!!!

Today, I've heard the his song "somewhere over the rainbow" the first time and also the story behind -the story of IZ. This lead that I cannot stop crying. I don't know why he touches my soul and my heart so much. Although he already died 12 years ago I got the impression that he is still there. In addition, I have the feeling I lost my best friend in live. This is why we are humans. Forget all the money, don' t think about a bigger house or a much more powerful car. Bear in mind that we have all a soul and emotions and Israel is helping us to remember what we are. Within my 40 years I was never touched like this. Thank you very, very much Israel.

I became a HUGE fan of Brudda Iz only after he passed. So sad. His voice and soul are so much bigger than he. I cannot help but cry when I listen. In his song "In This Life" it sounds like he knew the end was near. It makes me think of my own love for my late Wife. Thank goodness we can always listen to that wonderful God given voice! I wasn't introduced to Iz until I heard "Over The Rainbow" during the ER episode in 2002 when the character of Dr. Greene played by Anthony Edwards died of a brain tumor. At the time I had no idea Iz was already gone. What a gifted musician, the vocal melody in "Rainbow" is hauntingly beautiful. It is one of my favorite songs. Thanks Iz! What an inspiration.

A clip of Over the Rainbow is played periodically on George Noory's radio show. Ever so intrigued I had to look it up. 769 pounds, 6 foot 2 inches. Wow. from the sounds of it, built like a sumo and gentle as a puppy. I would have loved to meet him but I only discovered the music this year - and discovered Iz.... only yesterday.

I heard IZ's song Over the Rainbow when the movie 50 First Dates came out. Wow what a voice. Its like an angel was singing, so soft and peaceful. Then I heard it on the show Without a Trace and also on ER. So I went onto the internet to look up his name and to find out something about this man. So sorry and sad to find out that he had passed away. He is with his maker that gave him that beautiful sound, but have left us with no more new songs to hear and have them bring a smile to our faces. Will just have to listen to the ones I can find. Who exactly is the man behind the music? I only discovered Iz one week ago to the day, and I have been obsessed with his songs and his exquisitely enchanting voice. I would not be exaggerating if I said I have played Hawaii 78 about 50 times in a row nonstop, until I am moved beyond tears. I have never heard such a beautiful voice this side of heaven that can charm the darkest day. The Iz experience is so much more than music. There is a very powerful subtext within his songs. I am Hapa Haole. Born on the islands but raised on the east coast of the mainland. Growing up i remember listening to Facing Future and found that even tho i never heard that kind of music before, something about it just felt right (if that makes any sense to you lol). It always made me feel closer to home, to Hawaii. It still holds true today. There is something about this man that he was just able to bring the spirit of Hawaii into his music and share it with all who listen to it. His music will always hold a special place in my heart. My wife and i got married again after 25 years of marriage, on a beach at Maui last year. A local photografer took a lot of pictures, and made a picture show with a beautiful song to underline it, the song was "what a wonderful world". We was never told who did the fantastic interpretation, but we loved it. The other day i heard it on the radio, and they said it was IZ that did it, and i have now found it on You Tube :-), This beautiful song is bringing us back to hawaii every time we hear it, and we will for sure come back some day.

I was stationed on Oahu Hawaii from 1995 to 1997. The day my wife left Hawaii to go back home and get us a house set up was my birthday. That day happened to be the day that Brudda Iz passed. I must say, I liken his passing to that of Princess Di. It was something. Anyway, that big fellow could sure sing. I have heard Somewhere over the Rainbow-Wonderful life so many times, but every time I still get goose bumps. It is a feel good song, a cry song, it does for musice what Forrest Gump did to movies! Simply put it makes me feel good. Mahalo Brother.

Iz was born the day my father was killed. I couldn't believe it when I was reading his facts. I have known about Israel's version of the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow for a very long time but did not know who sang it. The song has recently been played on UK TV and I finally tracked it down on iTunes. A big man with a fantastic voice, so soft and full of emotion. Obviously he was much loved by the Hawaiin people to get the honors bestowed on him on his sad and un-timely death.

Brings tears to my eyes

I was recently introduced to IZ' music through a North American talk radio show known as coast to coast am. They play "somewhere over the rainbow/ what a beautiful world" once and a while on the show. I found it to be the best cover of that song I had ever heard even more so than the original in my personal opinion. I would love more of the world to hear this man and his beautiful message of live, love and happiness instead of the greed filled tyrannic mass media of today. If we learned to live more simply and respected each other as we were meant to then the world would be a much better place.

For my 50th birthday I recieive an IPod loaded with all my favorite songs and some that my family though I should hear. It took me months to get through all the new songs I was not familiar with. One day I was flying at 34,000 feet, the sun was shining , the earth below looked so magnificant. As I srolled though my IPod selections I cam across IZ's "over the rainbow". I played it repeatedly till the plane landed. Three years later I have never been been on a flight without listening to IZ. His music puts a smile on my face each time I listen it to. I have only heard this one song by IZ, but has touched my life greatly. So if you're ever on a plane , and you see someone with an IPod and smiling as if they are the happiest person on earth.....it's me listening to IZ ...what a wonderful world" Thank you IZ for putting the message of the importance of life in such a beuatiful song I wish I could have sat arounf a campfire with you ..

Hello the the beartiful people in Hawaii. I was there 2/2009 and I fell in love with Hawaii. I always wanted to go but never could afford it in my younger years and now in my older years my children got together and paid a Cruise to Hawaii for me. I went into a store and this CD cought my eyes of this beautiful face on the cover and I heard a few sample tunes that the store had and I liked it but it was the face on the cover that made me buy it for some reason. When I return to Texas I listen to the CD and fell in love with the music. I went and google it in the website and found out who he was. Iwas sadden to know that he had passed years ago. Not sure why but he touched my soul and brought me back to where I needed to be. I cried so much not knowing him personnaly but through his songs tender words he had a great loving heart and concern for his people in Hawaii, made me believe in unconditional love. I still cry but not because his death but tears of joy. He left behind to so many people that he loved so much and was Rich of having so many family and friends that loved him back. When I get to heaven I want ask God if I have the pleasure of meeting Israel my brother IZ. I love Louis Armstrong! Today, I heard the most wonderful or amazing version of Somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world over the radio. I had no idea who the artist was. I had to have the CD. After lots of research thru google, it came down to Iz. He's 'da real man! Was really saddened me was the fact that he has left us. Iz, wherever you are, you can be assured that we love your music and this song will be playing in my mind over and over again.

My wife & I discovered Israel when my daughter had his "wonderful world " track played at her wedding on Noosa river in Australia. What a great man and a wonderful singer who will surely e missed by many.

Hi to everybody.. I fell under Israel's spell few months ago when by accident I ran into his music.. now I own everything related to him.. all his albums, 3 dvds a full sized print of the beautiful painting that Ken Charon did, the book: IZ the voice of the people and more... he was simply ethereal.. with that voice he was and still capable of giving me so many emotions and all the time. I listen to him every single day and I will for the rest of my life. I just wish I could have seen him in concert. I wish more and more people will know him not only for that medley of over the ranibow/wonderful world but for all his art, his soul and his heart. long live Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

Stumbled on Iz's music when dowloading some Louis Armstrong. Now totally hooked; it's to relax by, swing by, do anything by.. What a great musician. Now going out to buy some Iz CD's and DVD's; hope i can get them..

I'm an avid Coast to Coast AM listener (latenight radio) and the host George Noory has made Somewhere over the Rainbow by IZ one of his trailer's almost every other night. It has to rank as my favorite song of all time to bring a tear to my eye. After finally seeing the man behind the song.....my tears are warranted. This man's soul comes through the radio waves and grabs you and shakes your heart even after his death. I'm grateful he left us with such a beautiful and simple song. Peace

This song was the favourite of my English colleague Lauren in London in 2007. Since then I am thinking very often regarding this lyric song. But I have never wonderfully heard it before IZ. I am very thankful about this. As I am a European it was unbelievable for me to saw the celebrate to say Good Bye to IZ. I am very impressived about the mentality of this warm people :-). I was on the Norwegian cruise to Fanning Island and the background music included many IZ songs. I heard 'Imagine ' by John Lennon being sung by IZ or someone whos sounded like IZ. Does anyone know where I can get this recording?

I visited Maui and while there I was exposed to Iz's music and I fell in love. I was unaware that he had passed. I researched his music and found out. It is heartbreaking to watch the videos of his funeral but i can see he was a well loved man and I truely will miss his music.
