My family just returned from our first visit to Hawaii and already we plan to go again. While there we heard the most beautiful music. I had to find out who it was and so discovered IZ. I bought Facing Forward and cannot put into words how powerfully it has affected me. Hence my search to find out more about this remarkably talented man and my discovery of this website. His voice is hauntingly beautiful, truly one of our best Hawaiin memories.

My grandmother use to play "somewhere over the rainbow" for me when I was little! Sadly, she passed away this past November, when it came time to plan her funeral, it was a mutual decision to play this song at the very end when we said our final goodbyes!! I miss her so much, but when I listen to this song, I know that she is right there with me!!

Even tho I am a haole, 3 of my kids are part Hawaiian. They were born in Hawaii (Oahu) lived there until 1977. I have always loved Hawaii and miss it terribly. My kids actually introduced me to IZ. I have listened to different renditions of Over the Rainbow, most prominently by J. Garland. My wife and I watched "50 First Dates" and Iz' version at the end of the movie brought tears to my eyes and a longing for a more simple time. I pray God blesses Iz' family and friends and I hope others will be inspired by the melody of his voice and the gift he shared. Bless you all.

The first time I heard the name Israel Kamakawiwo”ole was during my honeymoon on the beautiful island of Kawai in 2001. After listening to his music then I still listen to it today with as much passion as I did then. His voice is so wonderful you cannot help but be at peace when you hear his songs. Yes he left this earth too soon but he will live in our hearts forever when we listen to him sing to us and we remember this kind spirited man with a serene voice. RIP IZ

"Over the rainbow" became one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. Here In the past few years, I brought a lovely baby boy in the world that just here recently I got custody of. for the past 7 years, ive dealt with heart wrenching love with my sons mother. I'm able to fall back on this song when im feeling down about the life that has been given to me and my son. My sons mother is still with us but we miss her very much. I just wanted to say, I realize that I have a better life on the other side with my son. May you rest im peace IZ and thank you for giving me the strength to carry on with my son.

Somewhere over the rainbow wakes me up for several years now, every day, with no exception, because it's my wake up call song on the cell phone. Until yesterday, I had no idea who sang it because I heard it for the first time at the end of the movie "Finding Forester" and ripped it from the motion picture CD. I want to thank IZ for starting each of my days with joy and happiness. His music sure lives on!

I first haerd him singing the song "Ower the rainbow" couple a days ago, but that just blowd my mind. I looked up some more songs on youtube and I have to say they ar amaizing. I think his voice is just divine.

I am 68 years old. I first heard IZ about 7 years ago. His song played at the end of a movie...as the credits rolled. I've forgotten the movie. I'll never forget the song. It was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World." When the song ended I went online eager to learn more about this man who so moved me with just his voice, his ukulele, and his soul. But then as I read on, I learned that he had passed away...and I sat at my computer and I wept.

While in college in the 80's, I met one Peter Akimo III who was from Hawaii. He Taught me to sing Hawaiian and I fell in love with teh musci and beauty of the sound of Hawaii. I practived the song "Puna Ku'u Aloha", popularized by Kekua Fernandez, whom I would meet a few years later. When I san it for Kekua he thought it was very good. I learnd to love the Kazumera (spelling?) Brothers' sound. I lived in Everett, Washington most of my life and in the late '80s I sang with a group of people who owned several Halau's in the county, where tehy taught people traditional Hawaiian song and dance. My love for the music of Hawaii was rekindled, and I even learned to play the uke. We sang many Hawaiian songs and and concerts, and even got some press coverage (local kine). This past Chistmas my youngest daughter bought me Iz's album showing him in the pool on the cover. It brougth tears to my eyes with memories as I listened to it, but I am sad to learn of Iz's passing--many years ago now. If you woulk, please, can you send the Hawaiian words to his songs to me, so I can learn to sing them the right way? It's difficult to find traditional Hawaiian songs printed with the words in Hawaiian as well.

Dear Master - To see that a gentle giant like you could breathe life into a tiny Ukelele with those huge hands of yours was soul stirring and truly showed me that indeed you must have been an Angel walking amongst us. Blessed are those who recognized you as an Angel while you were still with us. To my knees I fell Master when I first heard your voice and I hit hard but it did not hurt. I was moved and I felt the power of your voice seer my soul. Instantly you had taken away my pain, my anger and my bitterness and in their place left me with a calming peace like I've never felt before and a burning desire to visit Hawai'i for the first time and to see the home where you grew up with Skippy. I only hope that when it's my time fo' go that if God let's me into heaven that I'll be lucky enough Master to get one of your concert tickets before you sell out. We keep hurting each other down here Master in ways you would not want to know but for those of us blessed enough to have heard the power of your sweet and calming voice there might be hope that maybe we could put some sense and love into the hearts of those of us blinded by the power of gold like you so eloquently sang about in your song 'In This Life'. OMG WOW i just heard his version of over the rainbow and i went insane trying to get to see him live. I found out he past and i dont think ive felt that bad over someone i dont know in my life. I can't believe how beautiful his voice was and how it just showed the love that he had for life and his fellow people. Such a big heart couldn't have been put in a normal body but God literally gave the world a huge gift when he blessed us with IZ and his beautiful life. We all could learn a huge lesson from the lesson taught by the way his music makes you feel. Braddah IZ is music incarnate... music come to life. If you were to collect all of your favorite songs put them together and then add flesh and muscle and give them a skeleton to stand on and then draw the most beautiful smile that your heart could dream up there before you would be IZ. IZ is music. And the reason he iz a big man iz 'cause God needed a big body to put that huge heart of his in... but that body still wasn't big enough to hold that heart that kept growing everyday. So God decided to call Braddah IZ so he could come be with him... now Braddah IZ's heart has all the room it needs and I will always have this burning desire to see Braddah IZ whom I never met. If I get lucky, maybe I'll get one of his concert tickets in heaven before they sell out.

I was shocked, when i first heard Israel's song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"... What a beautiful, agreeable voice. Israel is wonderful, good and romantic person... i said: is... yes... because Israel lives in our hearts and souls... We miss you...

i was in ukraine in 2003 studying medicine when i first heard that song in a romantic film made in Hawaii i had always wanted to know who sing that simple but beautiful song. Its only last year that i came to know the singer and heard the song completely for the first time and believe me at the last part of the clip where they empty the ash pot in thye lagoon i came to understand that he already left this world and my eyes were fill with tears and it happen everytime i get carry away with the beautiful words in the song everytime i hear him. This song is made for people who love to live and let live also. Thank IZ my only wish is that u r resting in the arms of GOD

I am a struggling artist... When I first saw an image of IZ, I thought, "wow... that dude is big..." little did I know how big, and beautiful. They say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but like the sunrise, some beauty is universally beautiful to all... such is his. Besides his physical difficulties, I am sure he had other human afflictions, as we all do... his art is a testimony to overcoming life's afflictions. He has inspired me to BE the art that is within me. His version of over the rainbow, and his "simplicity" of art, is my inspiration and pledge to hone the art within my soul... me thinks, "he walks with God".

Iv`e only just discovered this, I was completely mesmerized, my young son thinks it`s the best thing he`s ever heard, and I have to agree, inspiring and truly beautiful, no one word can describe it.

I have always liked Over the Rainbow but when I heard Israel sing it, I fell in love with him and his golden voice and music, so soothing yet energizing. What a beautiful man, what a beautiful voice. I am overwhelmed by the story of his very interesting life and how he gifted the world with his talent. His friends and family are so blessed to have had him in their lives. I want to listen to Israel's Over The Rainbow all the time because it is so joyful and I want it played at my funeral which I hope is many years in the future. Many love you Israel - God bless you. Somewhere over the rainbow/Wonderful World. Having recently heard this on UKTV adverts, I have now listened to the full version. Wow, what a beautiful song, with an incredible voice. Sang with such emotion and feeling, makes me feel like crying every time I hear it. INCREDIBLE.
